New additions make W.Howard fleet even more environmentally friendly.

Two new Rigid Trucks have joined the W.Howard Group’s fleet for 2020 in the company’s continuing quest to reduce its carbon emissions. Both trucks have been dressed in W.Howard Group’s striking yellow livery, which is designed to attract attention on the road and raise awareness of the company’s distinctive brand. The Mercedes Benz Actros Rigid Trucks were chosen primarily to meet the new Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) restrictions that came into force in London last year.

The ULEZ was introduced by Mayor Saddiq Khan to set stricter emissions standards for most of the cars, vans and trucks operating within the Capital. Drivers and companies must ensure that their fleet meets the limits set for air polluting nitrogen oxides and particulate matter from engines.

While newer vehicles will automatically meet these standards, many older cars and vans still in use today do not meet the required standards. By purchasing the Mercedes Benz Actros Rigid Trucks, W.Howard Group is ensuring its fleet operating within the London area is low emission and environmentally friendly.

The new vehicles also come equipped with lots of new features and upgraded technologies to assist the driver and make their journeys safer.

Instead of relying on conventional mirrors, Mercedes Benz has equipped the Actros with its exclusive MirrorCam technology. It gives drivers an improved view of the road both rearward and around the area of the A pillar, giving them better visibility of nearby cars and pedestrians. The MirrorCam further improves safety by automatically panning the camera image when the vehicle is manoeuvring, turning corners or changing lanes.

The fifth version of Mercedes’ Active Brake Assist system also helps the driver by performing emergency braking procedures when the vehicle is approaching stationary or slow-moving objects, as well as performing partial or full braking if moving pedestrians are detected, helping to reduce the risk of accidents.

Lane Keeping Assist and Attention Assist features also monitor the surrounding road surface, warning the driver if the vehicle strays out of its lane, or if it detects that the driver’s attention is starting to wane.

W.Howard Group provides regular deliveries to merchants all over the country, with much of its core range available to order on a five-day lead time from its distribution centres in London and Manchester.

Group Commercial Director of W.Howard Group, Simon Fleet, said: “At W.Howard Group we are keen to be as environmentally friendly as possible, so when we were looking to upgrade our fleet of delivery vehicles, it made absolute sense to choose the very best and most efficient trucks we could. Mercedes Benz is a fantastic brand that, like W.Howard Group, offers first-class customer service and innovative features as standard on its products. The impressive safety features available with the Actros Trucks mean our drivers can carry out their work safe in the knowledge that they  have the very best safety features to hand.”
